The South Korean delegation arrived to learn and enjoy our school’s environment

On December 27th, 2023, a visiting delegation of teachers and students from Daejeon Foreign Language High School in South Korea visited our school. Four Korean teachers,andforty Korean studentsconducted cordial and friendly exchanges with international students and AP program students in our school.

Daejeon Foreign Language High School is a renowned foreign language high school in South Korea,knownfor its excellent teachers and excellent second and third language proficiency among students.

Principal assistant Xu Lan welcomed the arrival oftheKorean teachers and students on behalf of the school, and introduced the educational philosophy ofourschool and the development of international exchanges and education.

Under the leadership of Deputy Director Yu Yuefang and teaching and research group leader Li Boshujie, the South Korean delegation visited theScience and Technology innovation Laboratory, Qian Xuesen Memorial Hall, San Wei Studioand Xing Tan in the East campus.

Later, the South Korean delegation also watched thephysical educationtraining of the Chinese students during recess.

Korean teachers and students came to the West campus, visited the West Campus Gymnasium and the Black Box Theater, and then they went into the classroom andattendedsix unique AP courses.

In Ma Zhiyun's Academic Writing class, the students appreciated the Term Paper model and reviewed the persuasive writing structure model.

In Rachel's11thgradeextensive reading class, students organized the main plot of the novel "DO ANDROIDS DREAM OF ELECTRIC SHEEP?"which they had read fora semester, discussed the author's writing intention, and summarized the main theme of the novel.

In the AP English Language and Writing class, Zhang Lushan gave a lecture on the play "No Exit" by the existentialist philosopher Sartre, guiding students how to rationally view the external judgment given to them, and how to obtain the correct cognition of themselves and the pursuit of life.

In Ma Nan's comprehensive English class, Chinese and Korean students introduced themselves separately, and then sat together for English reading and listening exercises, covering the civilizations of ancient Rome and the detection of sound waves in the ocean.

In the English literature class, Galen led the students to discuss the short story "Lamb to the Slaughter" by writer Roald Dahl. The students discussed which aspect of the story was ironic, and what type of satire it was. In the vocabulary guessing game in class, students competed to describe and guess words.

In Li Meng's Chinese traditional culture class, the teacher introduced theelementarybook of traditional Chinese medicine,The Yellow Emperor's Inner Canon, as well as the common treatment methods of traditional Chinese medicine:acupuncture, moxibustion, cupping, and massage, and showed the students the use of different types of large, medium and small needlesin acupuncture treatment,Common Moxibustion Sticks and Pillars,the use of vacuum tank, and also let studentspractice measuring items usingthe small copper scales used to measure Chinese herbal medicine. Li Meng also invited Liu Conghan, a studentto give a presentation. Liu Conghan not only introduced the origin of the Yellow Emperor's Inner Canon and the principlesof acupuncture and moxibustion therapy, but also sharedhispersonal experience of rapidly stopping diarrhea by pressing the "Tianshu"acupoint(two fingers on the left side of the belly button) whenexperiencing a case ofdiarrhea. A Korean boy experienced a smoke-free portable moxibustion boxforhalf class, and happily told everyone after class: "It's really comfortable!I felt warm all over my body. Traditional Chinese medicineistrulyamazing!"After the class, the Korean teacher who attended the class together also asked the teacher for introductory books on the Yellow Emperor's Inner Canon.

Afterattendingthe class in groups, Korean students paired up with students from AP class to exchange ideas, and had a delicious lunch with Chinese students in the cafeteria.

At the end of the morning visit, Chinese and Korean teachers and students bid farewell. The teachers and students of Daejeon Foreign Language High School in South Korea were deeply impressed by the AP featured coursestheyhadparticipated in and hoped to have more opportunitiesforin-depth exchanges with our school in the future. Although the visit of the South Korean delegation of teachers and students was short, it laid the foundation for further exchanges and cooperation in the future.
